About Me

I aim to build meaningful relationships and meaningful products. I seek to understand the people who will use the products I design, and fiercely advocate for their needs while remaining focused on business goals. I work with user researchers, engineers, product managers, business teams, and other stakeholders to cultivate empathy for users and break free of zero-sum thinking into finding areas of overlap between customer needs and business goals.

Experience

2017 to Present

Netflix Product Designer, Partnerships & Payments

I work in a unique space that allows me to learn about people all over the world. In this humbling role, I seek to understand our customers, find similarities and differences and work with the product, design, engineering, and business teams to create new products and strategies for features that customers will find engaging, entertaining, and worthy of their hard-earned money.

I use design to ask questions about what could make the service appealing to customers all over the world. The answers are often surprising, and if we're lucky— will lead to more questions.

What I'm learning: Robust A/B testing, data interpretation, using design to ask questions.

2016 to 2017

Netflix Product Designer, Content Platform

I worked on the content platform engineering team, where I collaborated with engineers and product managers to solve complex enterprise problems in the content acquisition and localization spaces. I designed software that allowed our content teams to scale more efficiently to support the growing number of titles Netflix releases year after year.

I helped my team make data-informed decisions by incorporating the System Usability Scale into our practices, allowing us to measure the impact of our design improvements and compare our performance with that of industry standards.

I also worked closely with designers and UI engineers to standardize our design system in order to design future products more efficiently and easily.

What I learned: User research methods, advocating for users, solving for scale, and relationship building.

2015 to 2016

Change.org Product Designer

I worked with the product manager and engineering team to identify areas of opportunity for the business, come up with potential solutions, and validate our hypotheses using A/B testing methodology. I helped grow engagement with promoted campaigns— their flagship revenue product, and designed a new crowdfunding product from the ground-up.

What I learned: A/B testing methodology.

2013 to 2015

ZURB Design Lead

I solved problems in multiple areas of the business, and trained other ZURBians to do the same. I collaborate with engineers on Notable, ZURB's product design platform.

I coached product designers through a fast-paced iterative design process to solve problems for clients. Some of the clients I worked with include eBay and SAP, as well as many startups looking to define the product and strategy of their business.

I created new courses for ZURB University, and taught online and in-person classes.

What I learned: Coaching skills, the realization that I wanted to focus on a single product.

  • Worked with Design Leads to solve problems for clients including Intuit, McAfee, and more, from product strategy to roll-up-yoursleeves prototyping.
